Fried Köfte

These are a great alternative to burgers because they have great flavor and aren’t served on a bun. Be sure to use grass-fed ground beef with at least 15% fat. A 90/10 ratio will not have enough fat for frying or flavor. Serve with raw or steamed vegetables for a balanced meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef

  • ¼ cup grated onion

  • ½ teaspoon salt (or ¼ teaspoon sea salt)

  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper

  • A pinch of dried thyme or one small bunch of chopped fresh parsley

  • A pinch of hot pepper flakes or powder

  • 1 tablespoon of butter for frying

Instructions

  • Mix all the ingredients except butter in a large bowl.

  • Shape the meat into small patties.

  • Keep the patties refrigerated until ready to fry.

  • Heat butter in a pan until it sizzles a little.

  • Add patties and fry on each side about 3 minutes until browned and cooked in the middle.

  • Serve with fresh vegetables such as cucumber and tomato.
